PlayStation 4 owners can expect the launch of more than 100 games this year, Sony announced during a recent press event.
“Virtually all” of these titles will run natively in 1080p, said Sony Computer Entertainment vice president of marketing John Koller, including games such as Thief, Minecraft, Destiny and The Order.

A PlayStation 4 update called version 1.6 is pushing to the console that will bring full support for both the regular Pulse and its Elite Edition, giving players 7.1-channel virtual surround sound and voice chat through Sony’s official hardware.
Elite Edition owners will also get to use a Headset Companion App (due later this month) that sets custom audio profiles. To mark the occasion, Sony is launching some new audio gear: the Gold Wireless Headset offers 7.1-channel audio, voice and game profiles in a travel-ready, foldable design. It should sell for $100 when it hits store shelves early this month.
Sony has announced it will perform PlayStation Network maintenance on Monday, January 27, beginning at 9:30 AM Pacific (12:30 PM Eastern). The downtime is expected to run for six hours, until 3:30 PM Pacific (6:30 PM Eastern).
“If you’ve signed in to PlayStation Network any time since January 20th you will be able to play games online and access partner apps such as Netflix during this maintenance period,” a forum post from PlayStation Senior Community Manager Paul Sullivan announced yesterday. The scheduled maintenance will disable access to the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and account management sections of PlayStation devices.

Call of Duty: Ghosts first dose of DLC, Onslaught, will be available to Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners on January 28, according to a photo Twitter user SeriousSix2010 claims to have taken at their local GameStop. The display notes that Onslaught will reach Xbox users first, which would align with Activision’s E3 announcement regarding timed-exclusive DLC for the platforms.
The poster suggests that Onslaught will consist of new maps known as “Fog,” “Bayview,” “Containment” and “Ignition,” as well as a “Maverick AR & Sniper Rifle” and the first episode of a four-part, episodic offering in the game’s Extinction mode.

As of December 28th the PlayStation 4 has sold 4.2 million units. The news was announced by Sony’s Andrew House at today’s CES 2014 press conference in Las Vegas, and it’s double the number we last heard, when Sony revealed that it had sold 2.1 million units as of December 3rd.

Sony is kicking off 2014 by giving some of this year’s best games to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Bioshock Infinite, DmC: Devil May Cry, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will be added to the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection throughout the month of January. That’s on the PS3 side; Don’t Starve will be the latest free title available on PlayStation 4, and PS Vita owners will be getting Worms: Battle Island and trivia game Smart As.
